Biography
Britten's The Little Sweep gave Adam Zdunikowski his first stage role, Clem, in 1990. Born in Warsaw in 1966 and trained at the city's Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music with Roman Węgrzyn, he has divided his working life between the Teatr Wielki — National Opera and the Warsaw Chamber Opera, whose Mozart festivals supplied him with a long sequence of lyric and character parts; his repertoire also includes operetta. In concert he has sung the large choral-orchestral scores under Kurt Masur, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Jerzy Semkow, Antoni Wit and Jacek Kaspszyk, with Polish music of the last century — Penderecki's Polish Requiem among it — a recurring commitment. He teaches as well. Kraków Opera and the Hamburg State Opera, where he sang Ferrando in Così fan tutte, have also engaged him, and he has performed Penderecki's music under the composer's direction. In 2012 he was given the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture, Gloria Artis.
