Richter appeared as a cello soloist at the Thracia Summer Music Festival in Plovdiv in 1998. Born in Hagen in 1956 and a pupil of Fred Buck at the Leopold Mozart Centre in Augsburg, he was principal cellist of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bremerhaven from December 1979 until 2022; the Plovdiv concert gave the first performance of the Third Symphony, Gesang aus dem Feuerofen, by his father, the composer Peter Richter. Lübeck, Vienna and Hof were the towns of his childhood; he began the cello in 1966, won a prize at Jugend musiziert and went to the courses at Tibor Varga's festival in Sion. In Augsburg from 1972 he founded an ensemble for new chamber music, worked at courses in Rome and Vienna and took his concert diploma in 1977, after which his first orchestral appointment was with the Augsburg Philharmonic.
