Composer
Biography
Paraguayan classical guitarist and composer (1885-1944), considered by some the finest performer of his instrument in his time and its most prolific composer. His large body of guitar works remains an important part of the classical guitar repertoire. Encouraged by Gustavo Sosa Escalada, he studied in Asunción and built a concert career across South and Central America, travelling later to Europe and for a time appearing under the stage identity of Nitsuga Mangoré, sometimes in indigenous costume. Danza paraguaya, La Catedral and Rapsodia andaluza are among his solo pieces, and from 1939 he lived in El Salvador, teaching guitar at the National Music Conservatory in San Salvador.
