Biography
Albert Mamriev was born in Derbent, on the Caspian shore of Dagestan. He studied with his father, the musician Jankel Mamriev, and went on to Moscow — the Central Music School, then the Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Alexander Bakulov and Sergei Dorensky — before continuing with Arie Vardi in Tel Aviv and Hanover. He has played across Europe, Israel, Asia and the Americas in Romantic and twentieth-century repertoire, and has recorded Liszt and Rachmaninoff among others. Hanover is his base: he is a piano professor and rector of the Neue Sterne Music Academy, and organises competitions and educational projects from there. Nikolai Kostylev was among his Moscow teachers, and his discography extends to the music of Ami Maayani. Alongside his service on competition juries he established two competitions of his own, the Neue Sterne International Piano Competition at Wernigerode and the Young Piano Stars competition at Königs Wusterhausen.
