Bass
Biography
He was twenty when he first walked onto the stage of the Lviv opera. Aleksander Teliga has since sung more than seventy leading bass roles — Boris Godunov, Philip II in Don Carlo, Zaccaria in Nabucco, Gremin, and the Mozart and Wagner parts — at La Scala, the Bolshoi, the Teatro Colón and the Berlin Staatsoper, and in Poland, where he settled after completing vocal and acting studies at the Lysenko Conservatory in Lviv in 1984. A recording of Moniuszko's Verbum nobile took an International Classical Music Award in 2013. He holds a doctorate from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and later the title of professor, and has taught singing at the Białystok branch of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music since 2015. The Polish National Opera and La Fenice are among his houses, and Sarastro and Daland stand beside the heavier roles. He has appeared in Shostakovich's The Nose and Prokofiev's War and Peace, work that took him to the Bavarian State Opera and the Teatro Real in Madrid.
