Tenor
Biography
Iași formed him: the Octav Băncilă art school, then the George Enescu Academy, where he studied with Octavian Naghiu, and a first engagement at the city's National Opera. Daniel Magdal sang in Germany and across Europe — the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Semperoper in Dresden among the houses — performing lyric, lirico-spinto and spinto-dramatic tenor repertoire, including La traviata, Tosca and Lohengrin. He made his Bucharest debut in 2004 as Radames and joined the Romanian National Opera as a permanent soloist from the 2018/19 season. He took a solo role in the company's Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci on 12 November 2021, in a cast with Sidonia Nica, Alin Stoica, Vicențiu Țăranu and Andrei Lazăr. At the Octav Bancila school he studied percussion alongside singing, and he was a soloist of the Iasi National Opera between 1991 and 1997. The German houses that engaged him also included Braunschweig, Freiburg, Halle, Hannover, Saarbruecken and Schwerin, and he has appeared as a guest in Prague, Gdansk, Wroclaw, The Hague, Mallorca, Tokyo, Osaka, Edmonton, Bern and Lucerne. He first sang in Sofia at the National Opera and Ballet in 2017, in the title role of Samson et Dalila. In 1997 he became a soloist at Theater Magdeburg.
