From 2002 onwards Dimiter Stanchev appeared with the Sofia National Opera, in Sofia and on the company's dates in Solothurn, in casts that included Emil Ugrinov, Ivan Varbanov, Ludmila Hadjieva and Ivan Momirov. He studied at the Music Academy in Sofia, taking opera singing with Professor Chavdar Hadjiev and stage direction with Petar Shtarbanov, and has been a soloist of the Sofia Opera and Ballet since 1975. His repertoire includes principal bass parts such as Philip II in Don Carlos, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, De Silva in Ernani, Méphistophélès in Faust, and Pimen and Varlaam in Boris Godunov; away from the stage he has sung cantata and oratorio works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Verdi and living composers.
