Soprano
Biography
Eugenia Ralcheva made her debut as Violetta at the State Opera Stara Zagora in 2001, having studied with the mezzo-soprano Alexandrina Milcheva at the New Bulgarian University. She was a soloist of the State Opera Rousse between 2006 and 2008 and joined the Plovdiv company in 2014. Tatyana, Mimì, Micaëla and Liù are among her roles, and it was Puccini that brought her the city of Plovdiv's grand prize in 2016, for Suor Angelica; the year before, a Crystal Lyre had gone to her for a programme of Richard Strauss songs. Earlier came first prize at the international singing competition in Albena and second at the Boris Christoff competition. A native of Plovdiv, she came to the academy by way of an art school and Alexandrina Milcheva's own school, and in 2014 she took third prize at the first Pancho Vladigerov chamber competition for singers. Antonia in The Tales of Hoffmann and Nedda in Pagliacci belong to her repertoire beside the oratorio literature, where she has sung the Verdi and Mozart requiems and the first Bulgarian performance of the Pergolesi-Bach Stabat Mater, and she has worked under Emil Tabakov, Boris Hinchev, Metodi Matakiev, Nayden Todorov and Yordan Dafovski.
