Bass
Biography
Trained in Berlin in acting as well as singing — with Hartmut Singer, Kurt Moll, Rudolf Piernay and Irmgard Hartmann — Frank van Hove has built his work in the German repertoire and in character bass roles including Kuno in Der Freischütz, the Gatekeeper in Korngold's Das Wunder der Heliane. He comes from Bonn, has appeared at Teatro alla Scala and the Opéra national du Rhin among other houses, and his recordings include Das Wunder der Heliane. Dessau and Braunschweig came before Mannheim, where he stayed in the ensemble until 2011, and Ochs, Daland, Sarastro and Gurnemanz were added to the German roles. Guest engagements have taken him to the Vienna Volksoper, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Royal Danish Opera, and in 2013 he sang Gurnemanz in Thomas Hengelbrock's Parsifal with the Balthasar Neumann ensembles, on instruments of Wagner's own period.
