Piano
Biography
Frederick Moyer attended the Curtis Institute while still in high school, graduated from Indiana University and made his Carnegie Recital Hall debut. He has played in more than forty countries — Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, with the Cleveland, Philadelphia, Minnesota, St Louis and London Symphony orchestras among others — and made recordings for JRI and other labels. The JRI album pairing the piano concertos of Edward MacDowell and Clara Schumann uses a recorded Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra accompaniment for MacDowell and a sampled orchestra for Clara Schumann. He was the first pianist to record commercially on the Bösendorfer 290 SE, is an inventor with multiple patents and developed the MoyerCam keyboard projection system, and performs his own transcriptions of classic jazz piano recordings with the Fred Moyer Jazz Trio. His teachers were Theodore Lettvin, Eleanor Sokoloff at Curtis and Menahem Pressler at Indiana, and the MacDowell concerto on the Plovdiv recording was the Second. He has also developed USolo, software that keeps a recorded orchestral accompaniment in step with the soloist. He founded JRI Recordings in 1992.
