Soprano
Biography
Gabriella Morigi was born in Turin, started at the piano at five and left the city's Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory with top marks in singing and a second-cycle academic diploma with honours; Leyla Gencer taught her, and the critic Rodolfo Celletti guided her training over several years. She was taken into the opening course of the Accademia di Martina Franca and engaged by the festival the year after. Her debut came very young, in Rossini's La gazzetta at the Opera Giocosa in Savona under Fabio Luisi, and the career that followed reached La Scala, the San Carlo in Naples and houses across Europe, South America and Asia, in a repertoire running from the Renaissance to the present day but centred on bel canto and, later, on Verdi. She appeared in the world première of Marcello Panni's Hanjo, staged by Robert Wilson at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; the production received an Abbiati award. She teaches singing at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro.
