Composer
Biography
Henning Lohner worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Frank Zappa. Born in Bremen in 1961 and raised in Germany and the United States, he has scored horror, thriller and documentary cinema, and worked inside the studio circle around Hans Zimmer that became Remote Control Productions, as a composer. His documentary films include projects on John Cage. The visual series Active Images consists of filmed scenes that appear motionless until, slowly, a movement declares itself. He read musicology, art history and Romance languages at Frankfurt and finished in 1987; Louis Malle was another of the figures he worked alongside, and the work with Cage produced the film One11. He joined the group of film composers around Zimmer in 1996, and his screen credits include Incident at Loch Ness and The Ring Two. The audiovisual work grew out of a partnership with the cinematographer Van Carlson, which he continued after Carlson's death in 2011. His music has been used for the Tagesschau signature since 2014.
