Biography
Ilija Marinković entered the Vienna Conservatory at nine; in a 2019 interview he described winning twelve first prizes at international competitions, among them the Wieniawski, the Kreisler and the Sarasate. Born in Belgrade in 1980, he has built a soloist's career from Vienna in a repertoire whose centre of gravity is Romantic — Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Paganini — but which reaches back to Bach and Vivaldi and forward to Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Bartók. He recalled stepping in for another soloist in 2006 on a sixteen-concert Russian tour with the Moscow Philharmonic under Yuri Temirkanov. RTS described his Belgrade appearance in 2019 as his first there since 2012. He recorded Hommage à Sarasate for Sony and has taught violin at the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory in Bolzano, and the Musikverein, La Scala and Lincoln Center are among the halls he has played. The Belgrade return of January 2019 was as a guest of the National Theatre.
