Biography
Irene Cerboncini studied singing with the tenor Luciano Saldari while taking a degree in literature, with distinction, in Genoa, and built her career on the dramatic Italian repertoire. Turandot, Tosca, Minnie in La fanciulla del West, Aida, Leonora in both Il trovatore and La forza del destino, Desdemona, Santuzza, Fedora, Maddalena in Andrea Chénier, Salome, Adriana Lecouvreur and Manon Lescaut have carried her to La Scala, Covent Garden, the Teatro Carlo Felice, the Teatro Regio di Parma, Scottish Opera, Finnish National Opera, Nice, Marseille, the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and the Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago. She sang Turandot at La Scala in 2004, La fanciulla del West at Covent Garden, and stepped in as Minnie at La Scala in 2016. Her Turandot at the Teatro Carlo Felice, in 2003, was the Italian premiere of Berio's completion of the score, conducted by Bruno Bartoletti. Verdi's Requiem and recitals of nineteenth-century song belong to her concert work.
