Violin
Biography
Twice within five years Jasen Todorov played the Sibelius Violin Concerto — first with the Sofia Philharmonic under Milen Nachev in January 2001, and again with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra in June 2005, in a concert marking a hundred and forty years since the composer's birth. His training took him from Bulgaria to the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, a bachelor's degree at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton and a master's with Oleh Krysa at the Eastman School, where he stayed on as Krysa's assistant from 2000 to 2003. He has taught at San Francisco State University since 2003 and headed its School of Music and Dance between 2008 and 2010, and has been a visiting professor of violin in Urumqi since 2004. His recording of the six solo sonatas of Ysaÿe appeared in 2001, and his complete Bach sonatas and partitas were issued in 2013; he was given the Crystal Lyre in 2006.
