Soprano
Biography
A Slovenian soprano whose work spans opera, concert and contemporary vocal music, Jerica Steklasa sang Berg's Altenberg Lieder in Ruse on 21 May 2014 — five orchestral songs — in a programme that ran from the Fidelio Overture through Webern's Six Pieces for Orchestra to Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. She began the violin and piano at six and took up singing at thirteen at the Ljubljana Conservatory, completing her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, the city where she has settled. Her first opera role was Pamina, sung in Sydney in 2013, and Susanna, Fiordiligi, Zerlina, Micaëla, Euridice and both Adele and Rosalinde have followed; in 2017 she reached the final of the Hilde Zadek Competition in Vienna. At that competition she shared third prize with Alice Rossi.
