Tenor
Biography
Church music came first. Born in Augsburg, Jürgen Sacher trained as a church musician and schools' music teacher at the city's Leopold-Mozart-Konservatorium, and then took his voice to the soprano Leonore Kirschstein. He joined the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera in 1991, moving outward from the lyric tenor roles into the character parts in his repertoire: Mime and Loge, which he sang in the company's Ring, Herod in Salome, the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel, Pedrillo. He has appeared as a guest at the Staatsoper Berlin, the Theater an der Wien, La Scala, the Liceu in Barcelona and the Salzburg Festival. Hamburg made him a Kammersänger in 2017. On New Year's Day 2006 he sang in Sofia, at the National Palace of Culture, with the soprano Charlotte Leitner, the violinist Liya Petrova and the cellist Boris Nedjalkov. Heidelberg and Dortmund engaged him before Hamburg did. David in Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg and the Dancing Master in Ariadne auf Naxos belong to the same line of work.
