Biography
When the Sofia Philharmonic marked eighty years of Bulgaria Hall on 9 October 2017, Luben Dimitrov was among the soloists it engaged, on a programme he shared with Ludmil Angelov and Aglika Genova. With Aglika Genova he has formed a piano duo since the mid-1990s, taking prizes at the ARD competition in Munich and the Tokyo Piano Duo Competition in 1996 and at the Murray Dranoff competition in Miami in 1997. The two studied with Julia and Konstantin Ganevi in Sofia and with Vladimir Krainev in Hanover, have recorded for CPO and Gega New, among them first recordings of the piano duo music of Shostakovich, Clementi and Pantcho Vladigerov, and have headed the piano duo department of the Hanover Academy of Music, Theatre and Media since 2009. Their competition successes also included the Bellini competition in Caltanissetta. In 2010 the duo became artistic directors of the Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.
