Biography
Guildhall-trained and then formed in Milan at the Italian Opera Studio, the British tenor Mark Milhofer has sung Monteverdi, Mozart, Rossini, Britten and new opera. Arnalta in L'incoronazione di Poppea took him to the Staatsoper Berlin and, in the 2022/23 season, to his debut at the Liceu in Barcelona; Alessandro in Il re pastore to the Salzburg Mozartwoche; Eumete in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria to Geneva and Florence. He has also sung at Oper Frankfurt, the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Royal Danish Opera. In 2002 he sang a long run of Il barbiere di Siviglia in Munich, Milton Keynes and Norwich, in a touring production on which Dario Fo also worked. Before the Guildhall he had been a choral scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford. He sang in Giorgio Strehler's staging of Così fan tutte, took Handel's Judas Maccabaeus to the Proms, and has recorded Britten's folk-song settings and a programme of songs written by and for Enrico Caruso.
