Soprano
Biography
Michèle Crider came to Europe after graduate study at the University of Iowa from 1986 to 1988. She left that programme to join the Zurich opera studio and won first prize at the Geneva competition in 1989. Her repertoire includes the Verdi roles Aida, Leonora and Amelia, alongside Tosca and Norma. She has sung at the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala, the Vienna State Opera and the Arena di Verona. She began teaching voice at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in 2012. She won the district Metropolitan Opera auditions twice before continuing at the Zurich opera studio, and was a finalist of the Luciano Pavarotti competition in 1988. The Geneva prize opened the way to her debut as Leonora in Il trovatore at Dortmund and to the international Grand Prix, which she took at once.
