Chorus master
Biography
Sarreguemines, Zürich, Lausanne and Schwäbisch Gmünd were among the stops of the Aida that travelled through France, Switzerland and Germany in January 2003, and Mladen Stanev had prepared its chorus. His later preparation work includes Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in Plovdiv and Puccini's Turandot for the State Opera Stara Zagora. Born in Kotel in 1974, Stanev took his master's degree in choral conducting at the Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music in Sofia and worked with Erwin Ortner in a masterclass in 2006. He has led the chorus of the State Opera Stara Zagora since 1999 and, from 2003, the mixed choir Petko Staynov at the Iskra cultural house in Kazanlak, which he has taken to competitions in Greece, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Israel. He conducted the Planinarska Pesen choir in Sofia from 1994 to 1999, the Rodina choir in Stara Zagora in 2004 and the Slavey choir from 2015 to 2019, and has directed the Petko Staynov National Choir Festival in Kazanlak since 2016. The Michelangelo Buonarroti festival named him best conductor in 2024.
