Neyko Boduroff

From the Dobri Hristov arts school in Varna to the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Neyko Boduroff took the conventional route of an orchestral trumpeter and then stepped off it. Born in Varna in 1982, he graduated at Detmold in 2009 from the class of Max Sommerhalder and stayed on in its soloist programme, studying further in Germany and the Netherlands as a scholar of the Ensemble Modern Academy; he played with Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, the Gstaad Festival Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, and received the Pro Europa award in 2007. Then he enrolled in the jazz department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Since returning to Varna in 2012 he has played with JazzProfilactika, the Varna Swing Orchestra and his own group Bandwagon, helped establish International Jazz Day in the city and the Varna Jazz Days festival, and released the album NIKOBO in 2019.
