Mezzo-soprano
Biography
Two diplomas, in piano and in singing, stand at the start of Patrizia Patelmo's career, after which she worked at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana with Carlo Bergonzi and studied with Renata Scotto, Leyla Gencer and Franca Mattiucci. She won the As.Li.Co. competition in 1993 and the International Competition for Verdian Voices in 1995, the year she reached the world final of the Pavarotti competition. Hers is the dark end of the mezzo repertoire — Azucena, Amneris, Eboli, Ulrica, Ortrud, Santuzza, Carmen, Fenena, Sara in Roberto Devereux — with Fidalma and La Frugola for contrast, sung at the Bregenz Festival, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Florida Grand Opera, the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Teatro Regio di Torino, the San Carlo, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Zurich Opera and the Teatro Colón in Bogotá. She has taught singing at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.
