Piano
Biography
Pnina Salzman was born in Tel Aviv in 1922 and was still a child when her playing carried her to Paris and to Alfred Cortot, whose teaching stayed audible ever afterwards in her Chopin and in her feeling for the French repertoire. She became one of the founding presences of Israeli concert life, closely associated with the Israel Philharmonic from its early years, with a repertoire centred on Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and the French school; her teaching shaped several generations of Israeli pianists. In January and February 2000, in her late seventies, she gave four Mozart concerts with the Israel Chamber Orchestra in Tel Aviv, playing the Ninth and Twelfth Concertos and, with Arie Vardi, the Concerto for Two Pianos, K. 242. She died in 2006.
