Trumpet
Biography
Professor of trumpet and jazz at Virginia Commonwealth University, Rex Richardson has built a career on declining to choose between the written concerto and the improvised chorus, and has commissioned and premiered a substantial body of new music for his instrument. He plays internationally as soloist and chamber musician, has served as international tutor in trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and writes for the trumpet himself — his 016 Fantasy for trumpet and piano is published by Editions BIM. In November 2010 he played the Tartini and Albinoni concertos in a Baroque programme at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, with the Thames Chamber Orchestra and the choir of Christ's College, Cambridge.
