Biography
Heard three times in the gala concerts of Raina Kabaivanska's international master class between 2008 and 2011, Silvia Teneva sang at Bulgaria Hall and at the Sofia Opera in programmes running from Vivaldi and Handel through Mozart, Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti to Verdi and Puccini. Born in Sofia, Silvia Teneva studied piano and clarinet at the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School and then opera singing at the Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music. She has taken prizes at the Hristo Brambarov and Svetoslav Obretenov national competitions for young opera singers and at Classic Mania in Vienna, and worked in the master classes of Raina Kabaivanska, Stefka Evstatieva and Anna Tomowa-Sintow. Further study followed at the Chigiana and Orazio Vecchi academies, with Mirella Parutto and Antonio Boyer in Rome and at the opera studio of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, where she built an opera and cantata-oratorio repertoire in a short span. A long-serving soloist of the Sofia Opera, she has been heard there chiefly in the lyric soprano roles, among them Mimì in La bohème.
