Tenor
Biography
Fifteen years lie between Simeon Simeonov's two known engagements: Bizet's Carmen at the Sofia Opera in 2003, sung twice, and Puccini's Turandot at the State Opera Stara Zagora in April 2018. Simeon Simeonov was born on 15 November 1949 in Sandanski and graduated from the Sofia Conservatory in 1976 in the singing class of Resa Koleva. He went first to the Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre in Veliko Tarnovo, and later studied interpretation in Rome with Boris Christoff and voice with Iolanda Magnoni. On 1 January 1985 he joined the State Opera Stara Zagora, where he sang principal tenor roles for twenty-one seasons. His operatic repertoire includes leading tenor roles in Tosca, La bohème, Madama Butterfly, La traviata, Nabucco and Norma. Alongside his stage work, he has performed and recorded music by the Bulgarian spiritual teacher Beinsa Douno, collaborating with pianist and arranger Petar Ganev from 1994. His roles at State Opera Stara Zagora have included Emperor Altoum in the company's puppet-theatre production of Turandot.
