Piano
Biography
Recital and concerto work across Europe and Asia has occupied So Ryang, a Korean pianist whose repertoire is the Classical and Romantic one. Born in Seoul, she began at five, left Korea at sixteen to study with Detlef Kraus, and won the first Folkwang Prize and the International Brahms Competition in Hamburg before postgraduate study in Vienna. Mozart is a particular study, played at the Mozarthaus in Vienna and at Mirabell Palace in Salzburg, and her concerto partners have included the Folkwang Orchestra in Essen, the Qatar Philharmonic, the Sacramento Philharmonic and the orchestra of the National Academy of Music in Sofia. Two of her own pieces were chosen to accompany silent films at the Viennale, and Preiser Records issued live recordings of her open-air concerts at historic sites.
