Soprano
Biography
Susanna Branchini took the long route through the soprano repertory, and took it in order. Born in Rome and a graduate with full marks of the Morlacchi Conservatory in Perugia, she won the Mattia Battistini competition and made her debut in her own city as Micaëla. The lyric parts came first — Liù, Mimì, Nedda, Suor Angelica, Leonora — then the spinto weight of Tosca, Aida, Elisabetta di Valois, Santuzza and Cio-Cio-San, and only then the dramatic roles that ask for agility as well: Odabella, Elvira, Lady Macbeth and Abigaille, which she sang at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 2018. Turandot followed. She has appeared at the Arena di Verona, La Fenice, the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Petruzzelli, the Opera di Roma and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and abroad in Tel Aviv, Beijing, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo and São Paulo, under conductors including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Daniele Gatti and Daniel Oren, and in stagings by Franco Zeffirelli, Mario Martone and Ivo van Hove. She teaches opera singing at the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome. In 2020 she sang with the State Opera Varna, in Varna and in Sofia, beside Momchil Karaivanov, Hristo Ganevski, Ivan Momirov and Plamen Dimitrov.
