Mezzo-soprano
Biography
Architecture came before singing in Valeria Girardello's training: a degree from the IUAV in Venice, then honours at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in the same city, then the academy of the Teatro alla Scala. The Rossini Opera Festival at Pesaro gave her a debut in 2017 in Il viaggio a Reims, where she has sung both the Marchesa Melibea and Maddalena, and the mezzo-soprano's repertoire has since run from Rossini's Angelina to Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Maddalena in Rigoletto and Flora in La traviata, with Handel's Armida and Battistelli's Le baruffe at either edge of it. La Fenice, La Scala, the Arena di Verona and the Teatro Massimo in Palermo have engaged her, under Myung-Whun Chung, Carlo Rizzi and Rinaldo Alessandrini, and in productions by Pierre Audi and Woody Allen. She sang in Sofia with the National Opera on 2 October 2024.
