Vasil Petrov

Gershwin has been a steady address for Vasil Petrov, whose album Vassil Petrov Sings Gershwin appeared in 1999, two years after Something Different. Born in April 1964, he graduated from the Academy of Popular Music in Sofia in 1990 and in March 1995 took the Golden Orpheus awards for artist and album of the year. He has worked regularly with the pianist and composer Vassil Parmakov and the conductor Roumen Toskov, and with the American musicians Dan Moretti and Phil Provenzano; he has sung in Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm and Belgrade and at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, and in 2011 the Apollonia Festival of Arts gave him its annual prize for his contribution to Bulgarian culture. He took part in the anniversary concert for the actor Rashko Mladenov at Bulgaria Hall on 1 October 2017, in a line-up drawn from several corners of Bulgarian musical life — Hilda Kazasyan, Theodosii Spassov, Ludmil Angelov and Angel Zaberski — with the Sofia Philharmonic.
