French horn
Biography
A horn player of the Vienna Philharmonic, and so of the Vienna State Opera orchestra from which that body is drawn, Wolfgang Vladar came to Rousse on 1 June 2011 to play Strauss's First Concerto in E flat as soloist with the city's philharmonic, in a programme that also carried Mendelssohn's Hebrides overture and Bruch's First Violin Concerto, the soloist there being Bojidara Kouzmanova. A Viennese, he studied the horn with Josef Veleba, Friedrich Gabler and Roland Berger, and at twenty took his first appointment at the Volksoper, where he played as a soloist for ten years before moving to the State Opera and the Philharmonic. Chamber music has occupied him as much: he belongs to the Wiener Virtuosen, the Eichendorff Quintet and the Toyota Master Players, and has played with the pianists Stefan Vladar and Rudolf Buchbinder, the violinist Ernst Kovacic, the singers Michael Schade and Thomas Hampson, the Artis Quartet and Ensemble Wien. He teaches the horn in Vienna and has given masterclasses chiefly in the United States and Japan.
