Tenor
Biography
Madama Butterfly has bracketed Zoran Todorovich's career. He first sang Pinkerton at the Vienna State Opera in 1997 and has returned to the part across three decades; in 2022 he staged the opera himself at the Landestheater Detmold, designing the costumes as well. Born in Belgrade in 1961, he studied piano and voice there alongside a first training in engineering, then took his degree at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurt am Main and continued in Munich. Detmold gave him his first engagement, and from 1994 to 1999 he belonged to the ensemble of the Staatsoper Hannover, where his roles included the Duke in Rigoletto and Jeník in The Bartered Bride. The voice settled as a lirico spinto and carried him to San Francisco, Tokyo, London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Zurich, Hamburg, Brussels, Berlin and the Bregenz Festival. His discography includes solo albums issued in 2001 and 2011 and recordings of Norma, Tosca and La fanciulla del West, as well as two Lehár and Kálmán operetta films. In June 2013 he sang the tenor solo in Verdi's Messa da Requiem at the Rythalle in Solothurn, with Noëmi Nadelmann, Daniela Djakova and Julian Konstantinov completing the quartet.
