In Search of a Time Believed Lost
05.2015
Highly motivated, with emphatic verve and the courage of desperation, the orchestra plunges into the floods of the 'Katerina' tragedy. What emerges from the pit — steered cleverly and with sure instinct by the man of the house at the podium — has stature. Balance and proportions are right; the playing is so colourful, so rich in contrast and so eloquent that the reduced forces hardly matter. The musicians carry 'their' singers on their hands, giving them the security and freedom they need to surpass themselves.
