Johann Christian Bach settled in London in 1762 and published his first set of six keyboard concertos there as op. 1 the following year, dedicating them to Queen Charlotte, whose music master he became. Two further sets followed, op. 7 and op. 13. They were aimed at a market of amateurs and can be played on harpsichord or on the new English fortepiano, an instrument Bach was among the first to present publicly in London, in 1768. The eight-year-old Mozart met him there in 1764 and took the shape of these movements as a model.
