West Side Story Medley
- Composer
- Leonard Bernstein
- Composed
- 1957
West Side Story opened at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York on 26 September 1957, with Jerome Robbins directing and choreographing, Arthur Laurents writing the book and the young Stephen Sondheim the lyrics; the Romeo and Juliet plot was transferred to warring gangs on the Upper West Side. Bernstein's own concert arrangement of the score is the Symphonic Dances of 1960, made with Sid Ramin and Irwin Kostal, which runs about twenty-three minutes and keeps the show's order only loosely. Medley arrangements by other hands circulate widely alongside it.
