Perfect Strangers is the title track of the 1984 album that reunited the Mark II line-up of Deep Purple after eleven years apart. Ritchie Blackmore's riff sits on a slow, deliberate beat, and Jon Lord's organ carries a modal, quasi-eastern figure through the verses; Ian Gillan's lyric is deliberately mythological rather than personal. The album sold strongly enough to make the reunion tour one of the largest of the decade. The song has stayed in the band's concert repertoire under every subsequent change of personnel.
