Summer Haze

The individuals of a swarm or a flock act independently towards a single objective, within narrow limits on how that objective may be reached; each follows a biological design that makes it a small part of a larger structure, and complex modes of evolution and adaptation become possible. The orchestra works the same way: every player follows detailed instructions and fills a part with personal experience and feeling, while knowing only a fragment of the whole. The piece looks for harmony through that robust individualism.
