La boda de Luis Alonso is a one-act sainete lírico with a libretto by Javier de Burgos, first staged at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on 27 January 1897. It is set in Cádiz in 1840 and turns on the wedding of an ageing dancing master to a much younger woman, broken up when a rejected suitor shouts that the bulls have got loose. Giménez, born in Seville and trained in Paris, had already used the same characters the previous year in El baile de Luis Alonso. The orchestral intermedio is played far more often than the work it belongs to.
