La Source, op. 44
- Composer
- Alphonse Hasselmans
- Opus
- op. 44
Alphonse Hasselmans taught the harp at the Paris Conservatoire from 1884 until his death in 1912, and almost every French harpist of the following generation, among them Carlos Salzedo, Marcel Tournier, Henriette Renie and Micheline Kahn, passed through his class. La Source, opus 44, is the best known of the pieces he wrote for his own instrument, most of them designed as studies that could also be played in public. Its running arpeggio figuration imitates water across the whole range of the pedal harp and rarely lets the hands rest.
