Who We Are

Conceived first as a sonata for bass clarinet and piano, and later transcribed for orchestra as part of the composer's postgraduate orchestration studies at Hardin-Simmons University. The narrative of the work turns on the discovery of one's own identity, taking the character of Jesus Christ as its ground. Much of the sonata form survives the transcription — the contrasting melodic material of the first and second subjects, and the overall shape of exposition, development and recapitulation.
