Gigue is the fourth movement of Sarabande, the suite Jon Lord recorded in September 1975 near Recklinghausen with the Philharmonia Hungarica under Eberhard Schoener. At just over eleven minutes it is the longest span in the set, and the least dance-like: the baroque title serves as a starting point for an extended instrumental argument between orchestra and rock band, with Hammond organ and electric guitar taking the solo weight. The album appeared on Purple Records in 1976, during the interval between Lord's work with Deep Purple and Whitesnake.
