Wiener Blut, op. 354
- Composer
- Johann Strauss II
- Opus
- op. 354
- Composed
- 1873
Strauss wrote Wiener Blut in 1873 for the wedding celebrations of Archduchess Gisela, the daughter of Franz Joseph, and conducted it in Vienna in April that year. The reception was cool — the waltz went almost unnoticed at the time and was not among the pieces that carried his name through the 1870s. It came back into circulation twenty-six years later, when Adolf Müller the younger used it as the title number of a posthumous operetta assembled from Strauss's music, and it has been played more often since 1899 than in the composer's lifetime.
