Commissioned jointly by the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Lake Constance Festival, the Dzintari Concert Hall, the Sofia Philharmonic and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society, and written for the Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova. The first performance was given in the Liederhalle in Stuttgart on 17 May 2025 by Sidorova with the Stuttgart Philharmonic under Michał Nesterowicz, and the Austrian, Bulgarian and Latvian premieres followed within weeks. Tabakova calls the accordion a machine with a soul and builds the piece on that contradiction: breathing figures set against mechanical repetition, an arc opening gradually out of stillness.
