Two Songs for Soprano

Two of Tekeliev's songs for soprano and orchestra appear in the Sofia Philharmonic's register: Accidental Love, on words by Ivaylo Balabanov, and God Is Born, on a poem by Evgenia Genova. They belong to a group of orchestral songs he wrote for high and low voice alike, in which the orchestra carries the argument and the vocal line is shaped by the stresses of the Bulgarian text. Tekeliev, born in 1942, studied composition with Veselin Stoyanov and orchestration in Budapest and Paris.
