melodies from cartoons of the Golden Age of American animation

The music of the Warner Bros. cartoons of the 1930s to 1950s was written and arranged chiefly by Carl Stalling, who scored roughly six hundred shorts between 1936 and 1958 at a rate of about one a week, with Milt Franklyn orchestrating and later succeeding him. Stalling worked by quotation, cutting between the Warner song catalogue, nineteenth-century concert repertoire and Raymond Scott's instrumental numbers — Powerhouse above all — synchronised frame by frame to the animation. The Warner Bros. studio orchestra of some fifty players recorded it, and the results have been reassembled into concert medleys since the 1990s.
