The year in which Anton Zimmermann wrote his Sinfonia Pastoritia in G major is still unknown. It is presumed to have been one of the show pieces in the repertoire of the orchestra he directed. The work is in four movements, and the call of the cuckoo in the introduction sets the pastoral scene; the alphorn and the orchestra hold an active dialogue through the two fast, driving movements.
