Абенберг

Abenberg's castle connects the town with medieval literature and a craft practised locally for four centuries. Its surviving tournament ground is mentioned in Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival. The castle was enlarged by the counts of Abenberg during the High Middle Ages, and its history is now explored in the Burgmuseum, whose displays range from tournaments and courtly culture to the modern Feuertanzfestival.

The Klöppelmuseum presents the town's bobbin-lace tradition through garments, fans, pattern books and tools, alongside work from elsewhere in Europe. Metal lace made with gold and silver threads is a distinctive part of the collection, connected with the region's metal-thread industry. The Abenberg lace school was founded in 1913 and continues to offer courses. Exhibitions, festivals and open-air concerts give the castle a continuing role in the town's cultural life.
