Бад Крьоцинген

Bad Krozingen has a distinctive musical address in its castle. The building was formerly the provostry of the monastery of St Blasien. Constructed in 1579, it was remodelled in the middle of the eighteenth century by Johann Caspar Bagnato and remains privately owned. Its former ballroom provides an intimate setting for concerts.

The castle houses the collection of historical keyboard instruments associated with Fritz Neumeyer, Rolf Junghanns and Bradford Tracey. Around fifty instruments, dating from approximately 1600 to 1860, include harpsichords, clavichords and fortepianos. The concert series brings these instruments into use in repertoire from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries. The interest of the collection lies in hearing as well as seeing: differences in construction and sound become part of the musical experience. The castle therefore connects architectural history with the practical study and performance of earlier music.
