Бад Майнберг

Bad Meinberg’s historic spa park belongs to an eighteenth-century programme of resort development. It was established in 1767 under Count Simon August of Lippe, with the physician Johann Erhard Trampel closely involved. The park acquired its present basic form around 1820, and the Brunnentempel was added in 1842. The pavilion and surrounding avenues remain defining elements of the spa landscape.

The wider municipality of Horn-Bad Meinberg includes a different kind of landmark at the Externsteine. These sandstone formations combine natural scenery with a long and still debated cultural history. Their rock-cut stairways and elevated viewpoints look across the Teutoburg Forest. In Horn, the castle museum provides another point of entry into local history. The park, rock formations and museum connect the history of the resort with the wider natural and cultural landscape of the municipality.
